FAQ
Get the facts about life settlements
Broker vs Provider
A broker is a state-appointed fiduciary; we are charged. by the state to represent your best interest and handle the sale of your asset while maximizing your payout.
A good broker often pays for themselves and more. Achieving greater results and fair commissions in exchange for time and risks associated with settlement transactions.
Can I keep my life insurance without making changes?
Who should be involved?
What are the costs or risks?
Life and viatical settlements are not for everyone. Not everyone qualifies to sell their life insurance policy due to factors such as, age, health and policy characteristics. Selling a life isnurance policy may have some implications to be aware of including;
– Suitability: (Does this make sense and is it a wise financial decision?) A good broker can help you navigate this option as well as advice from your financial advisor, family members, and a tax professional to name a few.
– Tax implications: How to handle capital gains (if any), cost basis (deductible) or tax-favored health exclusions or transfers.
– Medicare & Medicaid: Will the proceeds trigger a change in your health insurance, an increase in Part B premium or ineligibility of Medicaid?
– Creditors: Are the proceeds subject to creditors or debt obligations?
Brokers fees: A broker is paid a set amount of commission discussed upfront with the seller before engaging in the sale of a life insurance policy. Commissions have a legal cap limit to protect consumers. Brokers often pay for themselves above and beyond their commission to achieve additional surplus for the sellers. Bridge charges a flat rate (%) of the net or gross proceeds (whichever is less) per industry standard. We often base our commission on performance. As state-appointed, fiduciary partners, we aim to ensure our clients always come first.
Why sell my life insurance?
People sell for lots of different reasons. For many, life insurance can be a liability due to cost or expiration. For others, it’s a new way to fund retirement goals or an investment strategy. There is a way to sell your life insurance without changing its original intent, whether you sell now or later. Some clients wait years before they sell with us.
